The Bahamas, Reimagined for a New Generation
The Bahamas has never struggled to inspire.
The water still stops people in their tracks. The culture still moves to its own rhythm. The welcome still feels warmer here.
But the next generation of incentive travellers expects more than a beautiful backdrop. They want to participate, connect, explore and leave with a story that could only have happened in that destination.
Maritz’s 2026 report, NextGen-Proofing Your Events, argues that business events are approaching a major shift as younger generations move rapidly into the workforce and into decision-making roles. Their expectations are already influencing everyone: less passive programming, more personal relevance, stronger human connection and experiences that feel real rather than manufactured.
For Cacique, this is not a distant trend. It is the future we are already designing.
FROM SPECTATOR TO PARTICIPANT
The traditional incentive itinerary was often built around what guests would see.
The emerging experience is built around what they will do, feel and contribute. Maritz found a clear gap between what organisers often consider “immersive” and what attendees actually value. Guests place greater importance on hands-on interaction, active participation, multisensory experiences and moments that surprise them—not simply more screens or technical spectacle.
That changes the creative brief.
A Junkanoo performance becomes an invitation to join the rhythm. A culinary experience becomes a conversation with the people behind the flavours. A waterfront celebration becomes a story told through light, sound, movement and the night sky. Technology still has a powerful role to play. Drone shows, projection, lighting and immersive production can create unforgettable moments—but the innovation only matters when it deepens the human experience.
The magic is not the technology. It is what the technology makes people feel.
LESS BROCHURE. MORE BAHAMAS
Today’s guests have developed highly tuned filters for anything that feels staged, generic or overly polished.
They want real voices, real places and a genuine sense of local life. Maritz describes a growing desire to “live like a local,” with attendees looking beyond familiar landmarks towards neighbourhoods, personalities and encounters that bring them closer to the destination.
That is where a great DMC becomes more than a logistics partner. It becomes a curator, connector and catalyst.
At Cacique, we look beyond the standard itinerary to bring together independent chefs, artists, musicians, cultural ambassadors, boutique venues and local innovators. The result might be an intimate evening at a boutique venue, a contemporary celebration of Bahamian food and wine, or an island experience shaped around the passions of one particular group.
Not more choice for the sake of it. Better choices, intelligently curated.
That distinction matters. As the Maritz report puts it, today’s consumer increasingly wants someone to understand them, do the research and confidently guide them towards what fits.
CONNECTION BY DESIGN
Younger attendees value face-to-face connection, but many find conventional networking uncomfortable. They respond more naturally to creative environments, shared activities and low-pressure experiences that allow relationships to form around common interests.
So perhaps the future of networking is not another reception with name badges and cocktails.
Perhaps it is a sailing challenge. A cooking experience. A conservation project. A creative workshop. A shared table beneath the stars. The best incentive experiences do not tell people to connect.
They create the conditions in which connection happens.
PURPOSE THAT BELONGS
The next generation is also asking harder questions of the brands and destinations it engages with.
What do they stand for? Who benefits? What impact will remain after the group has gone home?
Maritz highlights the growing importance of values, sustainability, inclusivity and opportunities for attendees to see the difference their participation makes. In The Bahamas, purpose can be woven naturally into the programme through conservation, community partnerships, youth initiatives and support for local creative enterprise.
Not as a box to tick. As part of the story.
THE NEXT CHAPTER STARTS HERE
Cacique International was created to do more than show visitors The Bahamas.
As the country’s first destination management company, our role has always been to imagine what could happen next—and bring the right people together to make it real. The next generation of incentive travellers is challenging us to go further: to create experiences that are more personal, more participatory and more deeply connected to the people and places that give The Bahamas its soul.
The destination is extraordinary. The possibilities are still unfolding.
