CACIQUE PULSE | BRINGING THE GARDEN INSIDE

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
— Audrey Hepburn

Garden events naturally have the ability to put you in a trance; being at one with nature, taking in the crisp breeze as leaves, trees and flowers whisper sweet nothings in your ear. But what happens when you set out to take everything you love about the outside and bring it inside?

The legendary beauty of the Versailles Gardens on Paradise Island speaks for itself; a garden theater of sorts with its ancient marble cloisters, bronze and stone statues surveyed by gently-swaying palms. With such strong protagonists, one can only design great cameo roles to complement the existing story.

In this vein, we set out to create our very own Midsummer Night’s “Green” – an experience relevant to the space; one that didn’t take away from it, but instead, flowed with the existing landscape.

The what

For Cacique - The Bahamas premier DMC, event production and design company - the vision was clear. When you have a space that is already naturally beautiful, trying to compete with Mother Nature was is of the question; there’s a delicate balance to strike and a harmony to achieve. And just how do you do that? it’s simple. You bring the garden inside.

We used a clear tent and even though we added all of those greens, you couldn’t tell where the tent ended and where the garden started and that was the thought process. We tried to reinforce what’s already in the garden.

the how

We might think we are nurturing our garden, but of course it’s our garden that’s nurturing us.
— Jenny Uglow

Bringing the garden inside called for us to reach for some old time natural favourites, as well as introduce some surprise elements. Banana leaves, hanging moss, ivy, amaranthus and a variety of succulents and plants all made up our indoor garden, perfectly complementing the luscious garden on the outside. Using a deep palette of greens and a combination of textures added more dimension to the experience. In this manner, the perfectly-manicured exterior effortlessly drifted to the inside of the tent space, with transparent paneling adding to the seamless impression of dining in a lush, tropical canvas.

The wow

Whimsical touches of glass, wood, delicately hued flowers, candles and even green grapes brought the inside garden to life. Accent pieces, “wet” wood and splashes of gold added a shimmer and wow factor. The plates themselves had a look that resembled golden bark, fit for a banquet in a fairytale.

We brought the garden inside in such a way that it took on its own life, the colours dancing with each other as they do in the wild, the natural touches adding their own flair, hanging candles mimicking the flickering of fireflies, the whole scene reminiscent of the glow left behind after a mid-summer day’s shower. Begging the question…which one is the real garden? The one on the inside? Or the one on the outside?
